Before You Open | Therapist-Created Non-Monogamy Relationship Workbook
Before You Open is a therapist-created workbook for couples exploring whether, when, or how to open their relationship.
A lot of conversations about consensual non-monogamy focus heavily on rules, labels, or excitement, while skipping over the emotional reality of what this process can actually bring up once it becomes real. This workbook was created to help couples slow down, think more intentionally, and have more honest conversations before making major decisions.
Inside, you’ll find guided reflections, therapist insights, psychoeducation, and conversation prompts around topics like jealousy, attachment, emotional safety, agreements, boundaries, pacing, trust, communication, nervous systems, rupture and repair, and the real-life impact opening a relationship can have on both people involved.
This workbook does not assume there is one “right” outcome. It is not designed to convince couples to open their relationship or stay monogamous. Instead, the goal is to help people explore the process in a way that feels more emotionally honest, thoughtful, mutual, and sustainable.
Topics include:
• Emotional readiness and relationship capacity
• Open relationships, polyamory, swinging, and relationship anarchy
• Jealousy, reassurance, and emotional triggers
• Attachment dynamics and nervous systems
• Rules vs agreements
• Boundaries and sexual health conversations
• Time, scheduling, parenting, disclosure, and real-life logistics
• Grief, fear, excitement, and mixed feelings
• Repair, rupture, and rebuilding trust
• Slowing down before opening
• Moving at different emotional speeds
• Individual reflection and guided partner conversations
• Decision-making, integration, and next steps
